Preparing for career kick-off at OPTI SummerSchool

In 2020, Dr Gunnar Meyer won one of the XO CARE-sponsored scholarships at the exclusive OPTI SummerSchool in Germany. One year later, we’re curious to know what the training course last summer meant for this young dentist and his onward career in dentistry.

Some colleagues had spoken highly of the OPTI SummerSchool, and when Dr Meyer saw an ad in Zahnärztlichen Mitteilungen for the XO CARE scholarships, he applied and won a seat. For Dr Meyer, it was a professional and personal success to attend. He explains, “Not only the lectures and seminars but also the informal socializing with colleagues was very inspiring. The topics of business planning, practice planning and ergonomics fascinated me the most.”

One of the objectives of OPTI SummerSchool is to familiarize the participants with the most important - non-medical - areas of practice, but also to promote an exchange of ideas with colleagues at the beginning of their career as well as with experts in the respective fields. According to Dr Meyer, the training course gave the participants just that.

“You can design a much more economical and ergonomic everyday life in the practice through a close interplay between concept and planning,” says Dr Meyer. He continues, “We were able to solve specific problems, and we received a lot of good ideas thanks to a varied professional program and leisure activities right on the Baltic Sea.”

One year after OPTI SummerSchool

Today, Dr Meyer is a certified specialist in prosthetics and implantology and owner of Dr Meyer Zahnmedizin & Kieferorthopädie in Norden, Germany. Together with his wife and partner, they offer the entire range of modern dentistry and orthodontics, including diagnosis, treatments and preventive care.

The couple’s high quality and ergonomics standards are obvious when entering their clinic, and Dr Meyer elaborates, “My strict quality standards and the intense preoccupation with workflows led to the decision to purchase a XO dental unit. It is like a really well-built car. All functions are clearly identifiable, it is made of premium materials and some features can even be repaired or replaced by myself.”

“The biggest advantage in using a XO dental unit is the possibility of working ergonomically correct and to do so for many years and, if necessary, without assistance. That was what convinced me. In addition, our patients love the comfortable and chic chairs!” says Dr Meyer.
